W DISTRICT Bangkok

What is the W District Bangkok?

The W District is an area just off Sukhumvit Road, not far from the Phra Khanong BTS. You will find a few restaurants and two main condo buildings here; Skywalk and Le Luk. You will also find The Beat Hotel, a few cafes, a hostel and, what everyone associates this area with, the W Market.

The W Market is a large seating area tucked away from Sukhumvit Road. It is similar to the typical beer gardens you find all over Bangkok but even better; one of our favorite things to do in Bangkok at night.

The area is served by one main bar, although there are a few other drinking options such as the Kosmos bar, a Wine booth, a Japanese vendor who sells Sake and a fruit smoothie option too.

Once you have sat down and ordered your drinks from one of the many bar staff walking around the area, you can start browsing the food options. There are food stalls and vans around the edges of the area, which you can go around, order your food items then they bring it to your table.

There is also an artistic area in the W District – surrounding the market and dotted around, you will see graffitied walls and artistic sculptures, making this a chic neighbourhood on the Sukhumvit road.

Where is the W District Bangkok?

This popular nightspot isn’t far from Phra Khanong BTS station. Exit the BTS (take the stairs on the left as you look down Sukhumvit, towards On Nut – these are the stairs opposite the escalators coming up) then walk past Max Valu, Crystal Spa and M Cafe. Keep walking until you spot a Starbucks on your left with a rounded building above it.

Turn left, keeping the Starbucks on your left. The road curves around and you will see a 7/11 and a few stalls. As you walk around, you will see a roundabout with a small Shrine in the centre. Walk across the roundabout and you will come to the entrance of the W District.

The area is also known as the W Market and is near the Cielo Sky Bar incase you are looking to catch a grab or taxi.

What can I drink?

The main bar offers a lot of options. You can get pints, bottles, jugs or towers of many different types of beer, with local draught beer being the cheapest. Cocktails are available for around ฿160 whilst red and white house wine is ฿250 per glass. Mixers are also available as are soft drinks.

What can I eat?

Anything – pretty much. The great thing about this area is that there are lots of different types of foods available. Of course, you can order all the typical Thai dishes you would expect but there are also stalls selling Chinese, Indian, Singaporean, Greek, Italian, Mexican, Japanese and even Jamaican.

This is the ideal place to take visitors or fussy eaters because there are so many options available.

When to Go to W District?

W District’s food and drink stalls are typically active from late afternoon to around midnight, with peak vibes between 6 PM and 10 PM. If you want a lively crowd and good social energy, weekends are your best bet — but arriving earlier in the evening helps secure a spot before it gets busy.

What’s near to the W Market Bangkok?

Just a short stroll from the food stalls and beer garden you can hit the rooftop vibes at Cielo Sky Bar & Restaurant for panoramic views and cocktails; one of my favourite rooftop bars in Bangkok.

If you’re after more relaxed dining or drinks, J Bar & Cafe, the laid-back Goja bar, and classic pub vibes at P.J O’Brien’s Irish Pub are all nearby.

For a daytime brunch or coffee stop, Goose Cafe is a great pick, and if you want something more substantial, places like CARROTS Vegan Kitchen offer plant-based eats; one of the best Vegan restaurants in Bangkok. The surrounding streets are dotted with other cafes, bars, and small local eateries, making the neighbourhood around W District perfect for an extended evening out or casual food crawl right off Sukhumvit Road.

Tips for Visitors

  • Go early if you want a table on busy nights.
  • Bring cash as some food stalls may not accept card.
  • Dress casually — this is a comfort-focused, outdoor hangout, not a fine-dining spot.
  • Combine this with a BTS ride and mini street-food crawl in Phra Khanong for a full evening adventure.

We love the W District Bangkok and would recommend it to anyone visiting or living in Bangkok and looking for a local experience with plenty of ex-pats. Vendors speak English, prices are fair, food is delicious and there is a great atmosphere every night.
