Cheap Charlies Bangkok: Ultimate Guide 2026

Cheap Charlies Bangkok is an understated bar near On Nut BTS Station on Soi 50. This is a quirky, cheap bar and a must-visit in Bangkok.

We love this bar!

The prices are good, with beer and mixers all costing just 80 baht. But there is more to the bar than the price. You sit on stools on a paved area outside the bar front, with the bar adorned with intricate, interesting and downright bizarre items that take over the bar.

Expect to see fairy lights dangling from animal skulls, a panda dangling from a tree branch, a Batman model peaking through the bottles and numerous road signs as well as a full model train, circling overhead on a track.

Where is Cheap Charlies Bar?

The bar is a 5-minute walk from On Nut BTS station and opposite the parking lot of Lotus. When exiting On Nut, walk past Tesco and head down Sukhumvit 50.

On the right-hand side, you will see Rhythm Sukhumvit condos and a cluster of restaurants and bars next to this condo (also known as Beacon Place). As you walk through, Cheap Charlies is on the right-hand side, near a great pizza place.

Cheap Charlie’s Bangkok Location & How to Get There

Cheap Charlie’s is now located on Sukhumvit Soi 50, in the On Nut area of Bangkok, just a short walk from the BTS Skytrain. The bar sits opposite the Tesco Lotus (now Lotus’s) parking lot and is tucked within a small cluster of bars and restaurants, giving it a slightly hidden, local feel despite its popularity.

Getting There by BTS (Best Option)

The easiest way to reach Cheap Charlie’s is via the BTS Skytrain:

  • Take the Sukhumvit Line to On Nut (E9)
  • Exit the station and head towards Sukhumvit Soi 50
  • Walk past Lotus’s shopping complex
  • Continue down the street for around 5 minutes
  • Look out for Beacon Place / nearby restaurants — the bar is on the right-hand side

The walk is quick and straightforward, making this one of the most accessible budget bars in Bangkok.

For a fun evening out, head to Cheap Charlies Bangkok first then head up one stop on the BTS head to Phra Khanong, where you can some food and drink in the W District.

Getting There by Taxi or Grab

If you’re travelling by taxi or using Grab, simply tell the driver:

  • “Cheap Charlie’s Sukhumvit Soi 50”

Most drivers will recognise it, but it can help to mention it’s near On Nut BTS or opposite Lotus’s. Traffic along Sukhumvit can be heavy, so the BTS is usually faster during peak hours.

Walking Directions Tip

Once you turn into Soi 50, keep an eye out for a small outdoor bar setup rather than a large venue—Cheap Charlie’s is easy to miss if you’re expecting a big sign. Its laid-back, street-side setting is part of its charm.

Cheap Charlie’s Prices & Menu (Updated)

One of the biggest reasons to visit Cheap Charlie’s is right there in the name—this is still one of the best-value bars in Bangkok, with prices that are hard to beat in the Sukhumvit area. While prices have increased slightly over the years, it remains a go-to spot for budget travellers and expats looking for cheap drinks in a social setting.

Drink Prices at Cheap Charlie’s

Drinks are simple, affordable, and no-frills:

  • Local beers: around 80–120 baht depending on size
  • Cocktails and spirits: typically 100–120 baht
  • Wine (glass): around 120 baht

These prices make Cheap Charlie’s significantly cheaper than many bars in central Sukhumvit, especially in areas like Asok or Thonglor.

Good to Know Before You Order

  • Cash only: Cheap Charlie’s typically doesn’t accept cards but does accept scan for those with Thai banks.
  • No fancy mixology: Drinks are simple but strong
  • Great value: Expect to spend around 300–500 baht per person for a relaxed evening

Overall, Cheap Charlie’s stays true to its reputation—cheap, cheerful, and perfect for a casual night out in Bangkok without breaking the bank.

Cheap Charlie’s vs Other Cheap Bars in Bangkok

There are plenty of cheap bars in Bangkok but Cheap Charlie’s stands out for a very specific reason—it offers a completely different experience compared to the city’s other cheap nightlife areas. Here’s how it compares:

Cheap Charlie’s vs Khao San Road Bars

If you’re deciding between Cheap Charlie’s and Khao San Road, it really comes down to vibe vs party atmosphere.

  • Cheap Charlie’s:
    • Relaxed, social, and conversation-friendly
    • Popular with expats, travellers, and locals
    • Simple drinks and a quirky, laid-back setting
  • Khao San Road bars:
    • Loud, high-energy party scene
    • Street drinking, music, and bucket cocktails
    • Cheaper street beers from around 60–80 baht, with buckets from 150 baht

While Khao San can be slightly cheaper in some cases, it’s more about partying than relaxing. Cheap Charlie’s, on the other hand, is ideal if you want to actually talk and meet people without shouting over music.

There are lots of great bars in Bangkok and Cheap Charlie’s Bangkok is a favourite of ours! It is unique, cheap but the guy who runs the place is also really friendly and welcoming.
