Dine riverside at Keeree Tara Restaurant in Kanchanaburi, where stunning River Kwai views meet classic Thai dishes — here’s my honest review of the food, service, prices and whether it’s truly worth it.
If you’re visiting Kanchanaburi and searching for a restaurant with River Kwai views, classic Thai food and a memorable sunset setting, Keeree Tara is almost guaranteed to pop up in your research. It certainly did in mine. After seeing countless photos of riverside tables with the Bridge over the River Kwai in the background, I knew I had to experience it for myself.
Keeree Tara sits just meters from one of Thailand’s most famous landmarks, and that location alone makes it a standout. But as with many restaurants in tourist hotspots, I went in wondering whether the experience would live up to the photos — or if it would be more about the view than the food.
Here’s my honest experience dining at Keeree Tara, from ambience and atmosphere to food, service and overall value.
Keeree Tara Restaurant Review

Where It Is & Why It Matters
One of the biggest selling points of Keeree Tara is its setting. The restaurant is located right on the banks of the River Kwai, just a short walk from the famous bridge itself. After a day of sightseeing in Kanchanaburi, the location couldn’t be more convenient.
As I approached the wooden terrace overlooking the river, I immediately understood why so many travelers choose to eat here. The water flows calmly past, boats drift along in the distance, and the historic bridge stands proudly nearby. It feels scenic, relaxed and unmistakably Kanchanaburi.
It is a beautiful setting, a romantic experience and similar to the Goodway Restaurant we have also reviewed, but perhaps a little higher-end and luxurious. Compared to smaller roadside eateries nearby, this feels more like a destination restaurant. It’s open-air, breezy and designed to make the most of its riverside position.
First Impressions — Style & Atmosphere
When I arrived, what struck me first wasn’t the menu — it was the ambience. The restaurant is spread across multiple levels, which gives it a sense of space that many local spots don’t have. It also means you can find a quiet space away from others, perfect for romantic dates.

Views & Seating
The layout offers a variety of seating options, and this is where Keeree Tara really shines. You can choose between:
- Open-air tables directly beside the river
- Wooden terrace decks with wide, uninterrupted views
- Shaded indoor seating areas
- Upper-level tables overlooking the bridge
I purposely timed my visit to catch golden hour, and I’d highly recommend doing the same. As the sun began to set, the sky softened into warm orange tones that reflected beautifully off the river. When the bridge lights came on, the atmosphere shifted from daytime sightseeing to something far more romantic and atmospheric.
It’s easy to see why this is considered one of the best restaurants in Kanchanaburi.
Decor & Overall Vibe
The decor blends traditional Thai elements with a relaxed riverside feel. There’s plenty of wood, open space and natural light. It doesn’t feel ultra-modern or high-end, but it doesn’t need to. The setting does most of the work.
On the evening I visited, there was live music playing softly in the background. It added to the relaxed, social vibe without overpowering the experience. This isn’t fine dining in a formal sense — it’s comfortable, welcoming and designed for lingering over dinner.
That said, it’s popular. Around sunset, the restaurant fills quickly. If you want a prime riverside table, I strongly recommend arriving early and reservations are only available before 6pm. During peak season, you may have to wait for a front-row seat by the water.
However, we have visited the restaurant twice now and the second time, we arrived around 8pm, after sunset, and we found it easy to get a seat for four.

The Food — What I Ordered & What to Expect
Keeree Tara’s menu is extensive, offering a wide range of Thai dishes with a twist. There are some great fusion options to choose from! For example, I tend to stick to traditional Thai favorites when I travel, so I opted for the massaman curry that came with durian rather than potatoes.
Some of the standout options on the menu include:
- Tom Yum Goong
- Coconut milk fish curry
- Pineapple fried rice
- Grilled seafood dishes
- Durian sticky rice for dessert
I found the presentation to be particularly strong. The dishes were well plated and clearly designed with photos in mind. This is definitely a restaurant where your meal will look good on camera.
In terms of flavor, the experience was slightly mixed. The Tom Yum had a good aromatic kick and balanced spice. The curry was rich in flavor and I loved the selection of starts I shared with family.

Taste & Consistency
Before visiting, I’d read mixed reviews about Keeree Tara’s food quality. After dining there myself, I can see where those varied opinions come from.
On one hand, the dishes are flavorful, generously portioned and visually appealing. On the other, the quality doesn’t always feel elevated enough to match the setting and price point.
From my experience, here’s what to expect:
- Strong presentation
- Solid Thai flavors
- Large portions
- Occasional inconsistency in seasoning
It’s not bad by any means — but if you’re a foodie seeking the most authentic or bold Thai flavors in Kanchanaburi, you may find better value at smaller local restaurants.
Service
Service at Keeree Tara felt warm but slightly stretched during busy hours. The staff were friendly and polite, and I didn’t encounter any rudeness or major issues.
However, when the restaurant filled up around sunset, service slowed noticeably. Orders took longer to arrive, and dishes came out together rather than staggered. English communication was possible, but somewhat limited, which could make ordering more complex dishes a bit tricky for international visitors.
Overall, the staff clearly work hard, but the size and popularity of the restaurant mean that service isn’t always as polished as the setting might suggest.

Pricing — Is It Worth It?
Keeree Tara is a high-end experience at a mid-range price point. It isn’t street food cheap food and there are higher priced places in the area too, making this a fairly priced restaurant. Compared to the nearby Goodway that we also reviewed, this was actually a similar price, if not ever so slightly higher but not by much.
Is Keeree Tara Worth Visiting?
After dining here myself, I’d say Keeree Tara is absolutely worth visiting and makes it to my best things to do in Kanchanaburi list.
If you are looking for a beautiful sunset setting and incredible riverfront location, this is the space to be. The Thai menu is unique and innovative whilst prices feel affordable for the setting, atmosphere and food quality.
