Looking for an honest Father Ted’s Hua Hin review? We share our experience of this popular pub in Hua Hin, plus food, prices & what to expect.
As expats living in Bangkok, we visit Hua Hin a lot. For long weekends or week long breaks, we find ourselves on a beachfront hotel or pool villa to relax and unwind. Father Ted’s is a popular choice for expats and visitors, being that is offers reasonable western food in an Irish bar setting. Plus, the pub runs live music each night too, promising a fun night out. So what’s wrong with it? Well, here is our honest Father Ted’s Irish Bar Hua Hin Review.
Father Ted’s Hua Hin Review

The Vibe
Walking into Father Ted’s, you don’t feel like you’re in Thailand’s royal beach town at all — for a moment, you’re in a cosy, friendly Dublin corner pub under the tropical sun. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t like a bar in Dublin, but the wooden interiors, framed football jerseys, Guinness signs, and a mix of regulars and visitors create a familiar vibe for westerners.
There’s indoor A/C seating as well as outdoor tables and enough screens to show sports from every angle — which is exactly what you want during a Six Nations match or a rugby final.
It’s not a tourist trap; it’s a pub that’s grown genuinely local roots.

The Music
This is the reason to visit Father Ted’s. Each night they have various live music on offer, including the wonderful Bangkok Beatles; we love seeing this guys whenever we are in town! They also perform in some of the best bars in Bangkok too!
This is a great place to enjoy a few affordable drinks, listen to some live music and have some fun.
The Crowd
Father Ted’s attracts a wide spectrum of folks:
- Irish and British expats who’ve found a second home down by the Gulf of Thailand.
- Couples and solo travellers looking for live music, good drinks, and something a little louder than your average bar.
- Groups of friends who come every Wednesday for ‘Bangkok Beatles’ nights — a highlight on the weekly calendar.
- Morning-after patrons popping in for a proper breakfast — because the full Irish breakfast here is legendary to some.
It’s a social place — sometimes loud, sometimes chaotic, but never dull. That blend of expat familiarity and seaside vibrancy gives the bar its charm.
Drinks at Father Ted’s
Let’s be honest: an Irish pub is only as good as its drinks, right? Here you can get traditional Irish drinks like Guiness as well as plenty of cider, imported beers and spirits and of course, Tiger beer.
There are cocktails here but they can be a little inconsistent so I tend to stick with mixers.

Dinner & Menu at Father Ted’s
Father Ted’s menu is ambitious — and that’s putting it kindly.
From traditional Irish fare to familiar pub grub, Thai favourites, and even Mexican options, the kitchen here tries to do a bit of everything but it doesn’t quite pull it off.
During our visits, we have tried a few dishes now and they are all fair but just hit the mark. We don’t tend to write negatively about places in Thailand but this isn’t the place to enjoy a meal. For example:
- Father Ted Special Beef Burger: A decent burger but can be a little dry, especially on busier nights.
- Fish and Chips: Not worth having here, it lacks quite a bit of flavor.
- Tuna Sandwich: A decent sandwich for an easy meal
- Quesadilla: Perhaps the WORST Quesadilla in my life. This is basic deli type chicken in a stale wrap with a tiny sprinkle of sauce and cheese that is hardly melted. Do NOT recommend.
- BBQ Ribs: Again, fine but too much sauce and the meat was tough.

Who Should Visit Father Ted’s (and Who Might Skip It)
You’ll love Father Ted’s if you’re:
- A music fan who loves pub energy and live bands.
- An expat or traveller looking to meet people and swap stories over pints.
- Someone who wants a big breakfast or Sunday roast vibe away from sleepy cafes.
- In town on a Wednesday or weekend night — those are special.
Maybe skip it if:
- You’re after a quiet, romantic dinner with hushed conversation. For those looking for this, check out the White Lotus Rooftop bar in the nearby Hilton Hua Hin Resort.
- You’re strictly a fine-dining foodie (there are better restaurants for that).
- Loud music and rowdy crowds aren’t your thing.
Summary: Father Ted’s isn’t the place to enjoy a nice, sit down meal; there are plenty of great restaurants in Hua Hin to choose from instead. However, this is one of the best bars in Hua Hin, so enjoy it for what it is, an Irish-styled bar with decent drinks and live entertainment.
If you go to Hua Hin and only visit one Irish pub — go here. Make your reservations for live nights, eat before you get here, bring a good mood, and leave ready to tell stories.
