Bangkok offers a wealth of things to do but many of these temples and attractions will close in the late afternoon. Luckily, Bangkok offers some of the best nightlife in the world which is why we are sharing this guide to the best things to do in Bangkok at night.

Sky bars in Bangkok

Bangkok is a busy, bustling city full of skyscrapers that stand alongside temples. This makes for incredible views, which is one of the reasons that sky bars are so popular in the big mango. But which Bangkok Sky bar is the best?

Cielo Skybar

This is my favourite rooftop bar. The service is friendly and quick and it has an elegance to it but the price is fair and the bar offers a relaxed atmosphere. Being further away from the city, you get a more local vibe, with much fewer tourists here than any other bar we have visited. The multi-tiered seating area also means there is always plenty of “front-row” seating available to watch the sun set from. 

Above Eleven

Another favourite of ours, this bar and restaurant resembles a sky garden. The city park design includes structural tress, a maze and a fantastic view from every inch of the space. You can also enjoy some Peruvian-inspired cocktails too. 

Mahanakhon Bangkok Skybar

New to the scene, this sky bar is atop of the iconic, pixelated styled landmark. Officially Thailand’s highest restaurant and bar, this Sathorn based bar offers 360-views and serves the best cocktails from the world-class mixologists.

Octave rooftop Bar

This is one of the highest and arguably best 360-degree view from a Bangkok sky bar. With a selection of signature cocktails and delicious Asian bites, this is the perfect place for a romantic evening, watching the sunset behind the Bangkok skyline. 

RedSquare Rooftop Bar

For views of lower Sukhumvit, visit this rooftop vodka bar at the top of Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4. With a vast selection of vodka from all over the world and some creative bar snacks and daily happy hour, this bar is a must for all types of travelers. 

CRU Champagne Bar

Sip on champagne as you tower over the city from the roof of Centara Grand. This bar has a romantic, hipster feel about it and is perfect for first-timers to the city.

Le Du – Head to Silom to try some of the best modern Thai dishes in Bangkok from a young, creative and accomplished Chef Ton. 

Issaya Siamese Club – Surrounded by gardens, this 100-years-old house is the perfect restaurant to enjoy Thai food in a romantic, charming environment. 

Bo.Lan – Spanning across three dining rooms and an outdoor area, this restaurant offers traditional Thai dishes using organic, sustainable ingredients. The ambience is perfect for a calm and comfortable dinner, located inside a gorgeous renovated Thai home. 

Sorn – This sleek, cool Southern Thai restaurant offers a five-course sharing menu with traditional flavours and tradition techniques. 

Baan – Chef Thitid Tassanakajohn offers homey, everyday Thai meals with high quality dinging at affordable prices.

Cabbage and condoms – Affordable but tasty Thai food is served in this unique restaurant which is decorated by, you guessed it, condoms. Your meal will raise funds for the Population and community development association who promotes safe sex and sex education in Thailand. 

International choices

Suhring – With a German tasting menu, this restaurant has had a surge of interest since it opened in 2017. An a la carte menu is still available but many opt for the tasting menu which features over 10 individual courses.

Gaggan – Known for his Netflix special ‘Chef’s Table’, Gaggan Anand is quickly becoming Asia’s most famous chef. You will still find him at Gaggan at the chef’s table, also referred to as The Lab. In a 3 hour sitting, you can try 25 courses that span from Indian and Japanese to Tibetan and Thai flavours. 

Ginza Sushi-lchi – If you love your sushi, then this is the place for you. Book in advance and expect to spend; you will witness the art of a sushi master at the best sushi restaurant in Bangkok. 

Prachak Restaurant – This restaurant offers the best Cantonese-styled duck in Bangkok. Head to the Bang Rak restaurant to enjoy this popular Chinese dish alongside varieties of noodle dishes and rice. 

Enoteca Italiana – This Italian restaurant has become one of the most successful of its kind in Bangkok. The menu offers classic Italian dishes and, with its growing reputation, a reservation is necessary. 

Bangkok’s best Michelin Star restaurants

Gaa – Garima Arora is the first Indian woman to win a Michelin star and she did so here in Bangkok. Her food challenges perceptions of sweetness, resulting in some very unique International dishes. 

Mr Joe (Bib Gourmand) – Try the Moo Krob (crispy pork bell) and soup that made this street restaurant famous and helped it get a Michelin star.

Nahm – Located in The Metropolitan Hotel, this fine dining restaurant is considered one of the best in the world. Here you will find Thai cuisine prepared following ancient recipes alongside quality ingredients. 

80/20bkk – This collaborative kitchen saw 4 young chefs, coming together to create innovate, amazing food. Try the lamb heart salad or the beer tartare.

Chim BY Siam Wisdom – This has got to be one of the best value meals in Bangkok. Get yourself a three-course lunch menu from Chef Thaninthron Chantrawan who offers a fresh fusion of Thai dishes with seafood. 

Jay Fai – Jay Fai is a living legend and her story is recongised on Netflix’s documentary ‘Street Food’. She is the third street food restaurant in the world to be awarded a Michelin star. Try the poo phad pong kari (a crab curry with egg) to fit in with the locals. 

Best Bangkok Night markets

Rot Fai Market, Srinakarin

Selling retro memorabilia, quirky fashion items and rare collectibles, this market is massive and unique. Head to Srinakarin to explore the three sections of this market: Fashion, collectables and food.

Under and around the shell of an airbus, this market is still a low key, less touristy market but definitely a head turner. You can find a vast selection of shopping and dining options among art pieces and sculptures.

Huamum Night Market

This is a much smaller market full of predominantly locals. The market offers affordable fashion and there are lots of street food options.

Asiatique

For those travelling with families or looking for a romantic evening out, Asiatique is the market for you. Located along the river, you can take a stroll around this outdoor market and shop for fashion and snacks. There are also small rides and activities for children as well as a variety of restaurants for all types of travelers. 

Open everyday from 5pm – midnight

Get the BTS to Saphan Taksin and then jump on the free shuttle boat at the end of the pier. 

Chatuchak Friday Night Market 

Thousands of locals and tourists will visit the market every weekend but visiting on a Friday night brings with is an extra bit of charm. With over 15,000 stalls, the market is always bustling and busy and you will always find something that takes your fancy– even if you weren’t intending on buying something!

Attractions open until late

1. Sea life Aquarium – Open until 10 pm, this is a great place to visit if you love aquariums but don’t love the queues. 
2. Cruise the Chao Phraya – The temples maybe closed but that doesn’t mean you can’t see them illuminated, along with the Bangkok skyline, from the comfort of a cruise boat. There are many options available, some with dinner and some without. Either way, book a river cruise for a romantic evening of sightseeing, live music and stunning views. 
3. Amphawa Floating Market – Unlike many of the other Bangkok floating markets, this one stays open and busy through the afternoon and evening. Head here at dusk to watch fireflies dance around the boats and try some local snacks and sweets. 
4. The cinema – yes a strange one for travelers but the cinemas in Thailand are awesome! Upgrade to a VIP experience which comes with pre-movie snacks, first-class lounges, all-you-can-eat popcorn and luxury reclining chairs or even beds in the movie theater. 
5. Bounce! – Another great option for families or big kids. This trampoline park stays open until 10 pm and often olds events with DJs playing EDM music through the evening.
6. Ganesha Shrine – The shrine is open every day but is often visited in the evening. Plus, the shrine isn’t far from the Huai Khwang Night Market. 
7. Wat Hua Lamphong – This Chinese shrine on the Samyan intersection is open 24 hours a day and is enshrined with the Chinese gods of luck and prosperity. 
8. Bangkok Flower market – The Pak Khlong market is open 24 hours a day and is a bright, colorful experience; the ideal attraction for those flower lovers. 

British bars in Bangkok

The Royal Oak – Known to be the home of some of the best British pies in Bangkok, The Royal Oak is popular with expats and tourists. If you’re missing traditional British food, this is the place to visit. 

The Londoner – Found on Sukhumvit Soi 33, this is a popular pub because of it’s beer and drink selection. You can try the The Londoner brew on tap but also check out their Christmas lunch, it is a great choice for expats spending Christmas in the city. 

The Black Swan – This two-storey pub in Asoke has a popular happy hour from 2pm to 7pm and it’s Tower Burger; advertised as The Tallest Burger in Bangkok. 

Molly Malone’s – This looks like your typical Irish bar with a dark interior, lively crowd, live music and big screens to play the premier league. It is known for its Sunday lunch. 

The Robin Hood – A few minutes walk from Phrom Phong BTS, this bar is homely and friendly with some good drink options. Check out their happy nights for cheap imported beers. 

The Queen Vic – Any Eastenders fan will recognised the name but the inside of this pub is much nicer than the infamous East End pub it is named after. Expect a menu of British food in a very British interior.

The Sportsman – This is a popular bar when the footie is on. Head upstairs to join the crowds and buzz of watching sports on the giant HD projectors. 

Chequers – This is a smaller bar which caters for sports fan. The walls are covered in screens so you can watch your team play and the jukebox is always on the go. Plus, drinks start at 75 baht – you can’t go wrong!

The Huntsman – This isn’t quite the British bar you may be looking for – mainly because it is tucked away in the basement in the Landmark Hotel. However, it offers some of the best pub grub in town and it’s Sunday roast buffet is one to try. 

Honorable mention: Cheap Charlies Bar – Not actually a British bar but I felt we couldn’t have a list of Bangkok Bar’s without mentioning this one. It’s new location is in On Nut and the quirky design of the dive bar alongside the crazily cheap drinks ensures this place is busy every night of the week. 

Nightclubs in Bangkok

1. Vanilla Sky – With an excellent party atmosphere, this rooftop bar and nightclub is Bangkok’s first nightclubs to be located on a rooftop. You can enjoy 360-degree views of the city whilst dancing away to Live DJs and sipping on a cocktail. 
2. Route 66 – This is one of the more popular nightclubs in Bangkok which caters to every musical taste, including dance, pop and alternative music.
3. Onyx – If you love EDM, this is the club for you. Expect confetti drops, lazer shows and the full dance music experience.
4. Insanity – As one of the largest clubs in Bangkok, Insanity sees a mixture of performers from the best local DJ’s to international artists. Think Vegas or Ibiza and you are probably on the right track with this club. 
5. GLOW – The smaller size of this venue offers a much more intimate environment and is known as the go-to place for underground music. 

Concerts or events in Bangkok

Muay Thai – Thailand’s national sport brings in the crowds each week. Head to Rajadamnern Stadium to catch a decent set of fights on any Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday. Expect to pay 2000 THB for ringside seats. 

Siam Niramit – This show has been performed for years and offers a sparkly glimpse into Thai history through dance, music, acrobatics and drama. For those travelling with family or for anyone who loves the theatre, this should be a must for your time in Bangkok. 

Calypso Cabaret Show – This long standing show sees Bangkok’s professional and fabulous transgender artists portray some of Hollywood’s biggest stars in an all-singing, all-dancing production. 

Bangkok Comedy Club – This English-language dedicated venue offers comedic stand-up and improv every Friday Night. Head to the Royal Oak Pub on the third floor; tickets cost around 250 THB.

Unusual things to do in Bangkok at night

Midnight Supper Tuk-Tuk Food tour – For those looking for an evening of food, try this tuk-tuk food tour. You will meet your guide at the Sam Yan MRT Station and be taken around to a variety of sights in Bangkok as well as popular street vendors and ending the night at a hidden rooftop bar. 

Paintbar – Feeling artistic? Book a painting and drinking session with sessions starting from 7 pm through to 11 pm. 

Vistakitchen – Head to this restaurant in Lumphini, who serves healthy food based on your blood type. 

Sook Station – For a different type of experience, book a night at Sook Station – a prison themed hostel and hotel. 

Mo Moshi – Eat your weight in ice cream and waffles at this ice cream restaurant in the Siam Center building. Ice cream bowls are massive here, so bring along some friends for the challenge. 

KC Selfie Coffee – If you love selfies and coffee… this is the place for you – kinda. You can get your selfie printed onto the top of a cup of coffee and drink from your face. Hey, you wanted unusual this to do in Bangkok! 

Bangkok Float Center – Head to a float center to experience a sensory deprivation path which alleviates stress.
